Bruno Senna gets Lotus Renault drive

The most famous racing surname returns to a black ‘n’ gold liveried Lotus…

"Lotus Renault GP is pleased to announce that Bruno Senna will race alongside Vitaly Petrov at this weekend's Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps."

And thus, with a short, bold statement, one of the most famous names in motor racing returns to one of the most iconic liveries of all time: a Senna in a black and gold Lotus.

Lotus Renault GP has confirmed that its German driver Nick Heidfeld will stand down for F1's return this weekend at Spa, to be replaced by test driver Bruno Senna, a man who has been waiting in the wings since 2010.

Bruno, who as you should already know is the nephew of a man called ‘Ayrton', will attend the official FIA press conference ahead of this weekend's race, while Lotus is set to reveal "further details on the matter" later today.

Yes, the Internet is churning out many spurious and unconfirmed rumours regarding Heidfeld's sudden departure and his long-term prospects with the team. But we'd rather focus on the fact that Senna finally gets a crack in a half-decent car.

In fact, Ayrton even said, "if you think I'm good, wait until you see my nephew Bruno".

And although uncle Ayrton never won a championship in a Lotus - that happened later with McLaren - he did take seven poles in his first season and even won at a rain-sodden Spa.

There are two rather pressing questions at the moment. What will happen to Heidfeld, a man who has outscored Petrov this season, and how will the team fare when Robert Kubica returns?
