Subaru will debut two important models at Frankfurt, the XV crossover and the much-anticipated 2+2 BRZ coupe, which has been co-developed with the Toyota FT-86.
The XV is a compact crossover that's based on the Impreza. It features the latest iteration of Subaru's hexagonal grille, with 'hawk-eye' headlights, a sporty high-riding stance and oversized alloy wheel designs.
Developed under the concept of “Urban Adventure” the four-wheel drive XV will be powered by a 2.0-litre flat-four engine, which will be mated with a CVT transmission. Expected to go on sale at the beginning of next year, Subaru hasn't released pricing information, but it's expected to start from around £20,000.
Subaru will also reveal its much anticipated 2+2 coupe, the BRZ. As previously reported, the BRZ name stands for Boxer engine, Rear-wheel drive and Zenith. This confirms that, like the Toyota FT-86, it will be rear-wheel drive not four-wheel drive and will feature a Boxer engine under the bonnet.
No precise engine details have been released, but it's expected to use the same 200bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder powerplant as the Toyota FT-86, which should mean a 0-62mph time of around seven seconds and a top speed of 140mph.
The Frankfurt concept will be called the BRZ Prologue - Boxer Sports Car Architecture II. The II referring to the fact that a wire frame model was already revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Production is scheduled to begin in Spring 2012, just a few months after its Toyota counterpart.
