Audi plans to take Frankfurt by storm with three new performance car models. The four-wheel-drive S6 saloon and Avant, S7 and flagship S8 models will all use the company’s latest twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine.
Leading the performance push is the S8 which gets the most powerful version of Audi’s twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, with 513bhp and 650 Nm of torque. Due on sale in the UK next spring, the flagship model will cost around £90,000.
Power is fed to all four wheels through an adapted eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox, supporting auto stop-start and brake energy regeneration. This will help the big Audi achieve a combined cycle of 27.7mpg. The lightweight S8 will be made almost entirely from aluminium, allowing it to sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.2 seconds and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.
The S8 will also debut new technology, such as a new active noise cancellation (ANC) system, used to suppress engine and wind noise. Subtle styling tweaks include polished aluminium-look door mirrors as well as discreet S8 badging.
Also debuting at Frankfurt will be the S6 saloon and Avant alongside the S7 four door coupe. Each will use the same V8 tuned to produce 414bhp, as well as Audi’s seven-speed double-clutch S-tronic gearbox in place of the older six-speed automatic.
Other new developments include a reworked Torsen four-wheel drive system, which, like that of the S8, features a self-locking centre differential.
The S6 saloon, Avant and S7 also get active noise cancellation as standard, while adopting subtle design cues such as aggressive alloy wheel designs and additional chrome detailing within the grille and front bumper. These models will be on sale from spring next year alongside the larger S8.
