Abarth is upping its game with a trio of uncompromising special editions for the Frankfurt show. The Punto SuperSport, 695 Competizione and 500C Cabrio Italia are designed to sit right at the top of the Abarth range.
The Punto SuperSport takes the Essesse model as a starting point, including the same 178bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, and adds a two-tone paint job. On top of that is a set of 18-inch alloys and red brake callipers, stiffer suspension with Koni dampers and lowered springs and a sports exhaust system. Inside there's black leather bucket seats, Jaeger driving instruments and a Blue&Me sat-nav system.
Pushing the envelope even further is the 695 Competizione - the closest thing to a race car for the road the firm has ever produced. Here, the back seats are ditched and replaced with a roll cage, while power comes from the same 178bhp engine as the Punto SuperSport. A paddle-shift electromechanical gearbox, uprated Brembo brakes and a 'Record Monza' sports exhaust complete the package.
Last but not least is the drop-top 500C Cabrio Italia. Painted in 'Blue Abu Dhabi', it gets a 158bhp version of the 1.4-litre turbo engine and a five-speed manual gearbox. Also included, as with the other two models, are lightweight Sabelt bucket seats plus aluminium and carbon-fibre interior trim.
